after a fire burned their home. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong has been there since 4:30 this morning getting a close look at the damage. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we have daylight. we can get a look at the damage. you can see how hot this fire burned. there was a partial roof collapse this morning. so waiting for daylight was very important for investigations to make sure it was safe so they can figure out what areas are safe to go into as they try to figure this out. we just talked to a neighbor who practically could feel the heat of the fire from his deck. he told us what he saw. >> from what i could tell, it was another oakland hills fire. it was so intense and so big. i thought what's going on here? it was just the one house. but it was very scary. >> reporter: when he first saw the firefighter, the firefighters were not called get. they got a call at about 12:15 and they got here and saw the fire was surrounding threatening -- the fire was threatsenning surrounding homes and they called for backup. there was one person in a wheelchair. two officers were a

teacher who was found dead after being accused of molestation. as ktvu's john sasaki reports, that teacher was a beloved member of their school community. >> reporter: classes led out early today at albany middle school because of the hardships the school is enduring today. >> i had him as a teacher he was a really great teacher and i really miss him. >> reporter: tears flowed freely for the teacher that committed just five days after arrested for allegedly committing a lewd act on a minor. >> so i just feel really bad for all of his family and friends and all the teachers here that they loved him. he was a great guy. >> reporter: there was an outpouring of support and some in the school security say they do not believe the allegations. >> that's two families suffering through very difficult situationless. one suffering through a loss and the other dealing with their child being touched inappropriately. >> we don't have all the information. that's all we tell them. you shouldn't judge things until you have the information. >> reporter: despite that unknown situation, teachers and staff wor

. ktvu channel reporter allie rasmus is live with the damage and information on how two people escaped the flames. good morning, allie. >> reporter: good morning. this fire started at:00 in the morning. now four hours later, investigators are going through the home trying to pinpoint what happened. firefighters are dousing the walls with water to make sure nothing flares up again. two people got out safely. more on that in a minute. first we want to show you the through. you can get a sense of how large this house is -- 3800 square feet. the size hans configuration of the house were both challenges for firefighters putting out this fire. so is the weather. it's warmer than unusual in vallejo and it is -- as it is in most pats. they had to bring in extra crews to relieve some of the firefighters who first responded to the fire. >> we went to three alarms on this. it -- it's a large house. it's an older house. my third alarm was to get crews on scene to help with the overall fire. >> reporter: two people were able to get out due to the smoke detectors. the father told me off camera, that

of protesters over in that area. ktvu was the only camera here about 35 minutes ago as the presidential motorcade arrived at the plaza. 100 donors are set to dine with the president in just about 15 minutes at a $20,000 a plate dinner here at the auditorium to be followed by a concert and speech at the same venue. air force one touched down at san francisco international airport just before 2:00 this afternoon. a large and enthusiastic crowd greeted the president upon his arrival. people there told ktvu they support the president as election day draws near. >> i love what he's doing for our country. i love what he has done, and i'll be voting for him. >> a long line of donors lined up here this afternoon in all 6,000 donors are dropping $100 a piece to hear john legend and michael and to hear the president speak. that's scheduled for about 9:40 this evening. donors say they want to see an energized president talk about the differences between himself and g objectionp challenger mitt romney and they want to see the president capitalize on the latest employment data. >> that's data right

in oakland. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from oakland where there are still a lot of questions surrounding this protest and the police response. tara? >> reporter: well, a lot of people that we spoke to said they didn't see any police out here. we did put a call into the oakland police department. but we've not heard back yet. these anti-war protesters went on a rampage. this is the oakland tribune building where they smashed paint balls and they broke some windows and then as we sort of pan over here to the left. these are the offices for the berkeley lab and there is a surveillance camera perched up here where vandals struck and police will be taking a look at that video. now, this morning, crews power sprayed the paint off the tribune building but the other two windows on the be as easy to fix. we're told it will cost $6,000 to replace them. this began at 6:00 last night. about 200 people gathered at frank ogawa plaza in the evening. they timed this to the estart of the war in afghanistan. the demonstrators went on a march. and when they circled back to city hall, they struc

in oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >>> if you thought gas prices were high over the weekend, guess what, they went up again while you were sleeping overnight. ktvu channel 2 reporter matt keller is in our newsroom with on how the governor is trying to step in to help. good morning, matt. >> reporter: we just got the new numbers. for the third straight day the average price for a gallon of regular hit another all time high at $4.67 a gallon. of course in the bay area you are paying a few cents more at $4.71 a gallon. drivers are frustrated at the high costs. especially compared to the rest of the country. now governor jerry brown is trying to help by ordering state smog regulators to allow winter blend to be sold in california earlier than usual to bring down prices. winter blend gas isn't typically sold until october 31st. he hopes by selling it now it would increase supplies by bringing down prices. the high prices are changing driving habits. >> i try not to drive unless i really have to. >> i'm grateful and i only use the bike when necessary. >> reporter: the dramatic sur

, this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> good morning, welcome to mornings on 2, i am dave clark. >> i am tori campbell, thursday, october 4th. we begin with developing news on the morning commute. bart has been experiencing major system-wide delays to the past two hours. ktvu's alex savidge is live there with developments. >> reporter: good morning, yes, this was a stalled work vehicle that had triggered delays earlier on. but that problem has been taken care of. we did just get word from bart a couple of minutes ago that all of their trains this morning are now running on time. earlier on the delays were significant. show you video of what it looks like here with video. a bart spokesman told us they were experiencing 40 minute delays on two lines from the east bay into san francisco. that would be those lines. this was because of a maintenance vehicle blocking tracks early this morning south of the mcarthur station. now that vehicle has been cleared out of the way but trains were backed up. everything started about 4:30 this morning when that vehicle that rides actually on the bart tracks itself came

violence. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> police say a man and woman were sitting in a car near a liquor store when shots were fired. police say the man died at the scene. the woman was wounded but her condition is unknown. police say a shooting that left a 14-year-old girl injured is not related to that incident on macarthur boulevard. we're told the girl was grazed in the leg as she was riding in a car on international boulevard. this all happened about 9:00 last night. >>> and then about 10:20 p.m., a man was shot and killed outside another liquor store at macarthur and diamond streets. witnesses say it appears the gunman targeted the victim. the man died at scene. police are looking for those responsible in all of these cases. >>> a candlelight vigil was held this morning in albany for a middle school schoolteacher. was found dead lie -- middle school teacher. he was found dead in his car. allie rasmus is live to let us know how the school is responding. allie? >> reporter: well, they had the vigil for the popular teacher here who passed away. this afternoon, the memorial th

." in studio, we have tom vacar, computer editor for ktvu news and josh richman, regional political reporter for the bay asia news group. and joe garofoli, political reporter for "the san francisco chronicle." joe, you were in denver for the first presidential debate. must have been hard covering it, since there were so many people tweeting that night. tell us what's happened since then. how are the candidates -- >> things have really evolved over the last 40 ho8 hours. it was widely perceived that the president did not have a good night. didn't really realize the date is also a show, not just a competition of ideas. but in the intervening 48 hours, been a lot of fact checking, some of the stuff that romney said, that's catching up to him and the job numbers have come out today. and those have been helpful to the president, a little pit, the unemployment rate dropped to 7.8%, the lowest since he's been president, and that helps. because the republicans have been saying the last three years, unemployment rate has been high and not dropping below 8%. so, this is sort of a symbolic victory. not
